Brillane 2009

La Brillane is the most characteristic wine of our Domaine. It is light and fruity, typical of the wines of Provence, yet full-bodied enough and rich in tannin to age well for up to seven years.

Appellation : AOC Coteaux d’Aix en Provence

Average age of the vines : 25 years old

Soil: clay-chalk

Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre

Wine-making process : organic production certified by the Ecocert label (French Organic label)

Harvest: Exclusively by hand. The grapes are selected at the foot of the vines, then transported to the winemaking halls in special trays.

Wine processing: Selection of the desired grape variety in the correct proportions is completed in the wine-making hall. Separation of the vine stalks from the grapes; then the grapes slide down into oak vats. Fermentation is realized with natural yeasts from the grapes themselves.

Traditional fermentation methods are effected in the oak vats. Temperatures are kept constant, the juice is collected naturally by gravity, and the free-run wine is separated from the pressed wine. Minimal quantities of SO2 are used.

Maturation: I8 months in oak vats

Quantities produced: 11 000 bottles

Bottled at the Domaine, with minimum filtration.

Yields: 40HL / Hectare

SO2: 53 mg/l (maximum authorised for red wine is 160 mg/l and 100 mg/l in organic production)

Alcohol content : 14 % VOL

Tasting notes

Color: The Brillane 2009 has a brilliant ruby color with a slight tint of brick.

Smell: Intense notes of black fruits (blueberry, blackcurrant) and notes of soft spices can be detected.

The mouth is round and structured. Tannins are melted well. In the beginning of mouth, red and black fruits are very present then make way for the vanilla notes and for the symphony of spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger). Finale goes on slightly chocolate notes then an impression of freshness.

To be served between 16° and 18° C. (57° - 60° F.)
